Clare Libraries Become Centres of the Imagination this October

2 October 2023

Get ready for a month of magic as libraries across County Clare open their doors to young readers.

Clare Libraries’ annual Children’s Book Festival will bring the wonder of literature to hundreds of primary school children with a series of author talks, workshops, theatre and arts events. From captivating storytelling sessions to the thrill of meeting Ireland’s newest and best authors in person, and the creative spark ignited by hands-on literary and reading workshops, there's something for every young Clare reader to discover.

Children can enjoy visits with authors Patricia Forde, Éanna Ní Lamhna, Ellen Ryan, Alan Nolan, Erika McGann, Gráinne O’Brien, Shannon native Alex Dunne and Flor MacCarthy.

Creativity and imagination are key to the Festival and the programme boasts a variety of workshops in coding, healthy eating, biodiversity, archaeology, illustration and music.

Younger readers can enjoy the latest production from The Barking Dog Theatre Company; Teddy's Haunted House.

Children who struggle to find their next read can book a visit to the Book Doctor and pick up a reading prescription.

Clare County Librarian Helen Walsh welcomed the launch of the Festival Programme and said that, “Through our commitment to literacy, we aim to empower the next generation of storytellers and lifelong learners. Our mission is to provide a welcoming space where children can explore the world of books, authors and artists that spark their creativity and imagination.”

Children’s Librarian Patricia Fitzgerald further added that, “Our libraries are premier destinations for nurturing young minds and fostering a love for reading. Clare Library staff look forward to inviting teachers in primary schools again for the biggest celebration of books and reading in the library’s calendar.”

Children’s Book Festival takes place in all Clare Libraries throughout October. Events during school hours can be booked by teachers by contacting their local library. To see the full programme visit the Clare Libraries website at: https://www.clarelibrary.ie/
